Meet Janna

Licensed Clinical Social Worker Candidate

My journey began at the University of Montana, where I set out to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. Along the way, I discovered that what truly motivated me was supporting others in their mental, emotional, and social well-being—not just their physical health. That realization led me to reevaluate my path.

As I explored new directions, I found myself in a period of asking, “What’s next?” Eventually, I shifted my focus and changed my major to Social Work, with a minor in Native American Studies. It felt like the right fit—a field where I could connect with people in a deeper, more meaningful way. Even then, I sensed I wanted to offer more. I later pursued a Master of Social Work at the University of South Dakota, specializing in mental health with an emphasis on minority and aging populations.

Over the years, I’ve worked with diverse communities—from early childhood development, perinatal women, older adults, marginalized populations, and individuals navigating complex medical systems. These experiences have helped me better understand the unique ways our life stories shape how we relate to ourselves and those around us.

As a therapist, my goal is to help you connect with your own story—to make sense of where you’ve been, who you are now, and who you’re becoming. Together, we can work toward healing, clarity, and growth in a way that reflects and respects your individual experience.

Outside of the therapy space, I love spending time outdoors with my husband, our sons, and our dog. As a multicultural family—Hispanic, Native American, and Caucasian—we’re intentional about bringing our cultural heritage into daily routines and traditions so our kids can grow up incorporating cultural identity into their everyday lives. I’m a lifelong learner, often reading or diving into new topics that spark my curiosity. I also enjoy gardening, journaling, cooking, artwork, and any outdoor adventure.

My Theraputic Approach

Every individual comes to counseling with a different life story and how that story impacts them. Some people will come to therapy with a starting point in mind, and others may need guidance to know where to even begin. Our relationship can begin in either place; my goal is to support you in finding healing and experiencing growth wherever you are in your journey.

I believe that everyone deserves personalized support when it comes to managing their mental health. As a biracial counselor, I understand the unique challenges you may be facing and work with you to develop a personalized plan. I specialize in working with BIPOC community, aging individuals, and women’s health (perinatal & infertility). I also offer Christian counseling for those who would like to incorporate their faith in the process. With experience in Emotionally Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other evidence-based interventions I strive to personalized counseling sessions based on your goals and needs.
